Creative Arts

Welcome to the Creative Arts Ministry web page!

The desire of the creative arts team is to lead people into the presence of God. We often use words like “celebration”, “inspiration”, and “Preparation” to describe what we are striving to do.

VISION

To lead our church into the presence of God and prepare their hearts to hear from Him during the teaching.

BIBLICAL PRECEDENTS: The “how” and “why” of the Creative Arts Ministry (NIV except where noted)

  • The Greatest Commandment (Matthew 22:37-39)

"'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

  • Lead with Love & Unity (1 Corinthians 13:1)

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

  • Take Care of What He Has Given You & Don't Gnash Your Teeth (Parable of the Talents) (Matthew 25:14-30)

For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.... (truncated, but please be familiar with the entire passage)

  • Stay Encouraged & Invest in Your Gifts (Psalm 33:1-3)

Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.

  • Perfection Is Not Expected, but Excellence Is (Colossians 3:23)

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men.

  • This Is Not a “Gig” (1 Peter 2:9-10 in The Message)

But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God's instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.

EXPECTATIONS: The “Price of Admission”

  •  Worship Overflow

Your role in corporate worship should be an overflow of your personal worship. Incorporate the song lyrics, scripture references and teaching notes (posted on the Planning Center) into your quiet time in the week preceding your service.

  • Stay Encouraged & Be Unified

Team members are only expected to take care of the gifts & opportunities they have been given, as noted above in Matthew 25:14-30. Your first responsibility is to stay encouraged. Your second responsibility is to be an encourager and believe the best in your teammates. If you are experiencing conflict, you are expected to work through them directly with your brother or sister.

  • Skill vs. People

Grace Point is on a "Mission to Multiply." Skill cannot be the glue that holds our team together nor the source of sustainable growth. We will spend time together in prayer and dialogue without instruments & mics.

Team discussion ideas include group review of Here I Am to Worship (Tim Hughes), The Unquenchable Worshipper (Matt Redman), worship podcasts & blogs. You are also encouraged to attend optional fellowship events on a "to be announced" basis.

Lastly, please pray about & consider how God can use you in a capacity beyond your "assigned role" on the team. Examples include administration, video recording, stage design & sanctuary aesthetics, recruiting, discipleship, prayer warrior.

  • Practice vs. Rehearsal

Practice is what the individual team member does on their own, rehearsal is when the team members come together with their individual known parts and put it all together. (SOURCE: Tony Guerrero, Director of Creative Arts at Saddleback) In addition, it's really hard to let The Holy Spirit lead if you have limited familiarity with the set.

  • Hymnal & Rehearsal CD

In order to facilitate rehearsals, a quarterly list of 30 songs will be prepared by the Lead Worshipper, subject to review by the Worship Base Coach. You will be provided with one copy of the charts and song recordings, if available.

If your material is misplaced, you will be responsible for replacement. While the Lead Worshipper will cheerfully help, this activity can not occur at the start of a rehearsal or worship service. To replace a hymnal or CD, you must contact the Lead Worshipper well in advance of scheduled team activities.

  • Stewardship of...

...God's (Church) Property

Team members will have access to cables, microphones, instrument/music/mic stands, monitors, etc. Team members are responsible for the proper care and disposition of these resources and assets. This includes: set-up of items PRIOR TO rehearsals, warm-up and services; properly wrapping cables and storage of microphones following those events. Our goal must be to leave all church resources and the stage (including cups, charts, etc.) in better condition than what we found it in. Further, we must be willing to take personal responsibility for items that we damage. Use of all items in the sound booth require prior training and release by the Lead Tech or their designee.

...Time

Team members are expected to timely respond to Planning Center requests and be on time for service commitments, which means: be there early enough to have all equipment/mics set up, voice warmed up, tuned, etc. If conflicts arise (and we understand they will), team members will call the appropriate Lead Worshipper as soon as practical. We will be humble and honor each other's sacrifice of time.

  • Your Leadership Team

Your Lead Worshippers, Lead Tech and Base Coach serve God and this team best when you are set up to win. If you have questions or feel you are missing an appropriate balance of anointing and excellence in your servant role, please reach out to one of these team leaders for guidance or prayer.

  • Length of Commitment

Creative Arts Team members commit to a 6 month term of service (September through February and March through August); existing members will be solicited to recommit semi-annually. The leadership team will do their best to consider both your availability and the needs of the team in scheduling.

While we do expect your heart to be committed during this 6 month service period, we understand that family, work and other unforseen/unavoidable challenges may require your attention. We ask that you keep the worship leadership team informed (as far in advance as possible) and for the team to step up in your absence.
